New Art Exhibition and Vernissage

New Art Exhibition and Vernissage

We extend a cordial invitation to you to attend the opening of the exhibition “BLICKPUNKTE” by Bernhard Malin on Friday, 26th February at 7.00 p. m.

The exhibition is on show in our practice from 26th February until 5th August 2016 and can be viewed during normal opening hours.

The uniqeness of Malin’s works lies in the material he uses: instead of painting with oil or acrylics he employs different natural mineral pigments for his colour palette, e. g. valuable gemstone granules:

•    lapis lazuli for blue
•    amazonite and aventurine for green
•    ruby and rhodochrosite for red
•    black tourmaline for black
•    alabaster for white
•    and many other granules and pigments

The materials are all ground by hand and the granules thus produced then processed by Malin in a specially-developed technique before he applies them to the canvas.  His sculptures are made from alabaster, shell limestone, sandstone, marble and also wood

The artist’s latest wall object VIEWPOINTS, created in his studio and produced on canvas, consists of a specially-polished alabaster with blue inclusions embedded in multi-coloured pigment granules.

Bernhard Malin has been exhibiting his wall objects, sculptures and mosaics since 1996, almost always in solo shows.

Enjoy viewing Bernhard Malin’s exceptional art!

Seasonal flu vaccine is ready for use

Seasonal flu vaccine is ready for use

Each year, all over the world, the characteristics of the circulating influenza virus change. This situation presents a major challenge for the developers of new vaccines. They must update the strain composition of the vaccines to protect against the influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season. The exact composition is determined each year by recommendations from the World Health Organisation (WHO). Each and every adaptation of a vaccine is tested in a method for amending its authorisation before being released for use. After approval of the adaptation of the strain there follows batch-testing and subsequent approval for use of the influenza vaccine by the Paul Ehrlich Institute - a federal institute belonging to the German Ministry of health.

The composition of the influenza vaccine for the season 2015/2016 is in accordance with recommendations of the WHO and the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) from antigens of worldwide circulating variants of the following viruses:

  • A/California/07/2009 (H1N1) pdm 09-similar
  • A/Switzerland/9715293/2013 (H3N2)-similar
  • B/Phuket/3073/2013-similar (Yamagata-line)

The letters A and B designate the type of virus, the place name refers to the place where the virus was isolated: the first figure shows the number of the respective isolated strain, the second refers to the year of isolation.  H and N stand for abbreviations of the two most important proteins of the virus shell - haemagglutinin and neuraminidase. The number behind identifies the current haemagglutinin or neuraminidase sub-type.

The Permanent Commission on Vaccination (STIKO) recomends an influenza vaccination for:

  • all persons over 60 years of age
  • all pregnant woman, whose course of pregnany is during the influenza season
  • persons with increase health risks as a result of underlying illnesses (e.g. chronic diseases of the respiratory system, cardiac or circulatory disorders, liver or kidney diseases, diabetes or other metabolic disorders, chronic neurological primary diseases e.g. MS, congenital or acquired immune deficiency syndromes or HIV)
  • inmates of retirement or care homes
  • persons with increased health risk (e.g. medical personnel)
  • persons who could serve as possible sources of infection for people at risk already in their care

Furthermore, persons should be vaccinated who have direct contact to poultry and wild birds (while the vaccine does not protect against bird influenza, it does serve to avoid a problematic double-infection). Find out from our practice if a flu vaccination could help you.

Wishing you a golden and, above all, healthy autumn and happy winter days.

A hearty welcome to the new locum physicians in our practice.

A hearty welcome to the new locum physicians in our practice.

After the summer holidays Dr. Dorothee Schulz began her maternity leave. At the end of September she gave birth to a baby girl, Elisabeth. Mother and daughter are both doing well.

We would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations once again and wish Dr. Schulz a happy and untroubled time with her little newest addition.

To guarantee that the medical care offered in our practice continues at the same high level and to the same extent, we now have the support of Dr. Nora Löhman and Dr. Simon Mutzke. Together they will be substituting for Dr. Schulz until her return, which is expected during the course of next year.
